Butler Family Christmas Letter 2010

I still sub for the local school. I applied for, but didn't get, an elementary librarian position. It would be nice to have a schedule, salary, etc. but it's nice to have a day or 2 at home all by myself most weeks. I started jogging this fall after seeing some very unflattering vacation photos of myself. I had just worked up to 2 miles a day when the time change & cooler weather hit & I started slacking. I try to jog on the treadmill but it's hard for an uncoordinated klutz like me (I honestly HAVE hurt myself on that thing before.) The good news is that the increased exercise has helped my respiratory problems.

Tom's still a computer network guru something or other for Learfield Communications in Jefferson City. He still loves the job & hates the long commute. He's lost quite a bit of weight. I tell him HE looks good but the smaller he gets, the bigger I look. I think it's part of a convoluted plan to get me to lose weight....Regardless, he doesn't snore as much so I get to actually sleep & he's sleeping better also.

Max is 12 and in 6th grade, which means we made the big adjustment to middle school. It was a little overwhelming for us all at 1st but now that he's adjusted he really likes it. He plays a trombone in the beginner band. He's taller than me and has a mustache (it's not thick enough to shave but dark enough to plainly see.) He's very proud that over the summer he finally mastered riding a bike (Yes, I know he was 11 at the time but hey, the poor kid is a klutz like me.)

Logan is 10 and in 4th grade. In January, he was one of 4 third graders selected from our school for the district Knowledge Bowl. He placed 2nd in 3rd grade science, 2nd in 3rd grade social studies, and 2nd for 3rd grade overall. I was subbing & he came by the room to show off his medals when he got back to school. I was about to burst with pride...until he walked away & I saw his jacket was on inside out. You would think someone with all those medals could figure out how to put on a coat. ;) He's fascinated by weather & storms & thinks he might be a storm chaser when he grows up.

We took a week-long vacation to Chicago in August. Logan wanted to stay in a 4 star hotel; I told him that wasn't in our budget. He said, "Well, you can stay in a 4 star hotel & pay a 2 star price-hotwire.com!" I think he watches a little too much tv! :) We went to Sears Tower, Field Museum, Adlers Planetarium, Museum of Science & Industry, Shedd's Aquarium, Navy Pier & Legoland Discovery Center (as Logan is the biggest Lego fan ever-had a cool scale model of Chicago.) It's a beautiful city & the architecture is amazing. This was the 1st "real" family vacation we've taken (the rest have just been long weekends.) We had lots of fun & Logan's now planning trips to New York City, Washington, D.C., LA, etc. Hope HE plans to also pay for them!!

We hope you had agreat 2010 and that 2011 is even better for you.

Christmas Greetings from Jonathan & Linda Cassidy 2010

This has been a year of love, laughter, and family. However, there was not a day in 2010 where the entire family could be together, so there is no family picture! Below you can see pictures of our 11 children and 17 grandchildren. We stay busy, but we love it! After 38 years of marriage Jonathan & Linda still sing:
When peace, like a river, attendth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Christmas Letter from Chris Crawford Family 2010

Hey Everybody Guys,

For those of you who don't already know, Ashley coined this phrase when she was little. She has grown up but I have not. I am sure you figured this out by the fun picture I made them

participate in. Ashley thinks she looks plastic, Tara thinks she looks bald and it is politically incorrect for me to tell you what Chris thinks about this picture; therefore my mission was successful. I do what I can to keep things lively around here. I had to pick up the slack with Ashley going off to college. I am still at Humboldt Elementary but I am the secretary now. Keeping up with 400 kids and 50 staff members keeps me hopping but I love it. I fill the rest of my time chasing Tara around and talking to Ash on the phone. Chris is still working for Herzog. He found time to go see on Nascar race this year. Merry Christmas and may your 2011 be filled with love and laughter.

Love ya later-Robin

P.S. Snowman were actually harmed in the making of this card.

Well, 2010 was full of a lot of firsts for me. It started off in January with my first car wreck-very traumatic. I was fine, however my escort was NOT, especially the driver's window I shattered with my head! Another first was graduating from high school. I ended up at literally the last possible second getting in the top 5%, therefore landing me the Curator's Scholarship at Mizzou. Which leads me to my most exciting first: COLLEGE. Let me just say that within the first week of college I had more fun than my entire high school career. I am having a blast and truly enjoying myself. I am double majoring in Journalism and English with a minor in Spanish. I joined a sorority, Kappa Delta, and have more true friends than I ever imagined possible. I was selected to be Assistant Secretary in Kappa Delta and was on the dance team for Homecoming and GAMMA Jam. I got a job teaching dance at a Catholic school's after care program and when I go back next semester I will be the head instructor, which is extremely exciting. I miss home sometimes but the freedom and close proximity of all my friends in Columbia is a nice change from the 30-minute drive to anywhere! Haha. I miss seeing everyone so Facebook me or call me anytime. It really does make my day! Lots of love,

Ashley.

P.S. If Tara doesn't tell the truth in her part: she got her first boyfriend this year! :P

This year had its share of ups and downs but I think I speak for most of my family when I say I am glad this year is almost to a close. Softball, volleyball and basketball have kept me busy. My Nitro team won the C World Series USSSA tournament and received first place. I made A team volleyball at Bode Middle School and we won quite a few of our games as well as tournaments. Now it is basketball season and me, possessing no basketball talent decided to become manager so I could still hang out with all my friends who are very good at basketball. They are all doing wonderful and winning lots of their games as well. As of course, Ashley already told you Igot my first boyfriend this year. He is tall and plays basketball and soccer. These are the good things that have happened this year and I feel it necessary to leave out the bad, for your sake. I hope we all keep in touch and see each other soon.

Love, Tara

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from Dozes' Dilemma! 2010

As I write this, Kent & Cub are vacationing on the Big Island in Hawaii. Cub purchased property near Hilo this year and plans to clear the land and build a house. Cub is showing just about every aspect of the Island to his dad, so Kent is getting to see things that the typical tourist would never get to see. It is the trip of Kent's lifetime, that's for sure!
Dustin & Karen have very busy lives, as usual! Brett is driving now. He runs cross country, track, works at the theater, mows yards, is class president, sings with the Syracuse H.S. Singers and is a member of the Drama & Debate Clubs. Cody played football and basketball this year. He sent us "Flat Stanley" who spent a week with us before going back to Syracuse Elementary. Cody shot his first big turkey!
Jared has been doing well except for his bout of pneumonia which put him in the hospital for a few days in Sept. Later he developed bronchitis and is just now getting over that. He usually bowls close to his average, but did bowl a 222 and a 258 this year. He has four new bowling patches.
David is still attending K-State majoring in Electrical Engineering, goes to some of the K-State ballgames. Kent and Cub joined him for one football game. David traveled with us to Syracuse in Oct. to watch Brett run cross country.
Jesse has started back to college and is enjoying it very much. It's so nice to see him excited about doing something again. Curtis started preschool this year and he loves going every day.
Some of the family came for a very late Christmas in March and we celebrated Brett's 15th birthday while they were here. Everyone was here for July 4th for our annual backyard birthday celebration for Kent. We had a fantastic fireworks display in spite of all the rain storms we had! Jesse & Curtis stayed a week longer and we always love having them here.
I flew by myself, for the first time ever, to Ohio in Aug. to spend 12 great days with Jesse & Curtis. I don't know how much help I was while I was there, but I think we were all very happy to be together. I got to attend Curtis' pre-school orientation. On Jesse & Curtis' first day of "real" school, Curtis came up to me and asked, "Grandma, are you sure you're going to be okay here all by yourself?" I was so touched!
Sadness touched our lives this year several times. My step-dad (for 53 years) J.D. had been very ill and was living in a nursing home. Mom became very ill in March, was hospitalized and then went to live in the same nursing home. J.D. passed away April 2nd and Mom (LaVaughn) passed away May 24th. It's so hard to accept that they are gone.
I also lost a dear friend to cancer in July and then J.D.'s sister, Phyllis, passed away in Nov. from injuries suffered in a car accident.
There are so many friends and relatives suffering at this moment with cancer and other illnesses. There are so many wonderful men and women serving in our military and in harms' way. May God's blessings touch each and every one of them.
We are wishing much joy and happiness to all of you this Christmas season and throughout the New Year.
Love,
Vicki & Kent
