April24 1940 I rode into Mom's for a few minutes as A. went to J.s. we hauled posts & wood this aft.
Jan 131940 Aunt Dell died today. Mother & Daisy sat up there tonight. Alfred & I stayed at Johnnie's tonight. It snowed a lot today and drifted tonight.
{I think Aunt Dell was an Oxford and sister of Jake. I don't know if Aunt Dell ever married or if she had kids. Aunt Dona might know.
Jan141940 Alfred & I came home today. The snow is awfully deep. I don't feel very well this afternoon.
Jan15 1940 WE went up to DAisy's this morn. Ralph, Mom, Betty, & Granny came by and D. & I went up to see Aunt Dell with them. A& I stayed at D's tonight.
Jan20 1940 today is AUnt Mary's birthday.
Feb28 1940 Alfred took a load of wood to town today.He fixed fence this afternoon. Daisy came down a little while this eve.
Feb29 1940 Dean Maroney bought the S.B. Chapman place & will move there as soon as Millard moves.
March5 1940 Alfred & Johnnie cut a tree by the barn today. Daisy & I went up to Grandma Axsom's awhile this afternoon.
March6 1940 Alfred helped his dad clean his barn today. He hauled a load of straw & a barrel of water, Lil was here a few minutes this eve

March7 1940 A. cleaned the barn today. Lil & Geraldine were here this aft. Johnnie sowed grass seed down here this aft.
March8 1940 A. cleaned the barn today. Mamie, Daisy, & Geraldine A. were here. We went to Millard's tonight & bought their cook stove
{Grandma Daisy Boyd Axsom had a sister Madge Boyd Hamilton, who died at age 24 and she had a daughter named Geraldine. Grandma Susan Boyd raised some of her deceased daughter Madge's daughters, one was 24 year old Geraldine H.}
March10 1940 Johnnie, D., & Marvin, Alfred & I went to Cains. today. J. bought a house from Rolla Maroney. We ate dinner at G. Boyd
March9 1940 Alfred & I went up to his folks today. I cut out some flannel baby clothes. Alfred & J. hauled some straw.
March11 194o I went up to Daisy's with Alfred today and made baby clothes. I made 2 blue undershirts & 1 pink gown trimmed in blue.
March12 1940 Alfred cut wood today. He ate dinner at Johnnnie's. I stayed home all day. It sleeted last night & the ground is icy.
March13 1940 We got our cook stove from Millard today. Alfred & J. helped him move. Daisy came down here. I washed.
March14 1940 Alfred hauled corn for Millard again today. Jr. C. bought a load of corn from us today. I finished washing.
March15 1940 Jr C. came after his corn & ate dinner wiyh us today. I went up to Mothers this aft. Alfred fixed fence & cut wood this aft.
March16 1940 Alfred sawed wood at Johnnie's today. I baked light bread & scrubbed the front room today & went to G. Axsom's awhile this eve
March17 1940 we put one bed upstairs this morn. we went up to Daisy's this aft. & I cut Alfred's hair. We stayed all nite up there, it rained tonight.
March18 1940 Alfred & Johnnie went to cut wood on Hartley today. I done up my work this morn. & went up to Mom's this aft.I went on after the cows.
March19 1940 Today is Jrs. birthday. He is 16. I went up & ate birthday dinner with him I finished banie's dress this aft. & drove the cows home. It rained this eve.
March20 1940 Alfred & Johnnie piled wood on Hartley today. I stayed at home and baked a cake & baked light bread.
March21 1940 Alfred & Johnnie cut & piled wood on Hartley. I went up to Grandma's & to Mothers awhile this evening.
March22 1940 Johnnie went to Princeton & got us 28 bales of hay. Alfred hauled manure & harrowed stalks. Mother & I went to Jenette's Marvin stayed here tonight.
March23 1940 They sawed their wood today. I stayed at home. Mother, Betty, Bessie, Mary Lou & Floyd Jr. were here a little while this evening.
March24 1940 Today is Easter. Alfred went to his folks this aft. I stopped at Mothers awhile then went on up there. Anna & kids came up there.
March25 1940 Shirley & Roy Lee are staying up here this week. Shirley stayed here last night and Marvin came here after her this eve. Roy Lee stayed (can't read)
March26 1940 Johnnie & I went to town today. Alfred sharpened posts. It has been cold today. It has been cold today. Roy Lee stayed here tonight
MArch27 1940 we went with Alfred this afternoon & took some posts over between us & Millard. Roy Lee stayed here tonight.
MArch28 1940 we fixed up the waterthru D.,J.,& S.C. came down this eve. we changed our sow & helped them change theirs. S. stayed here tonight.
March29 1940 Daisy & Roy Lee came here & stayed 'till after dinner. We went up there & cut seed g. this aft. Both kids were here tonight.
March30 1940 I washed this morning. we planted potatoes today. Prince & Puny ran away this eve. the kids stayed & went to town with J. tonight.
March31 1940 A. went to Zack's morn. we went to Johnnie's & all went to Aunt Mamie's awhile & to Oscar Clamands both kids came down tonight.
April1 1940 Alfred & Johbie sowed oats today. Roy Lee, S. & I went up to G. Axsoms this aft. M. came & got Shirley. I scrubbed kitchen
April2 1940 Alfred worked at J's today. Roy Lee & I went up this aft. I made baby clothes. Roy Lee came home with us.
April3 1940 A.&R.L. took the team up for J. to use, Alfred came back & we planted some garden this aft. Mom was here this aft.
April4 1940 Alfred cut sprouts down along the creek today. I planted s. corn & beans. we went up to J.s this eve Roy Lee came home with us
April5 1940 Alfred & Roy Lee went up to J. to work I have worked hard today. Alfred ate dinner up there. we went to G. Axsoms a bit tonight.
April6 1940 we went up to D. this morn. Alfred disced & I sewed baby clothes. Shirley came home with us. It rained tonight.
April 7 1940 Alfred went to Willie's this morn. It's been a year ago today since Alfred & I started going together. J., D., & Roy Lee came this aft.
April14 1940 Alfred plowed w. truck patches. S. & I went up there. Anna came after the kids. Charlie, Mary & kids, Hallie, Gm., Gp., Dollie & B. & Bessie'scame to Mom's I went up there.
April25 1940 Alfred hauled wood this morn & worked some for S. Crawley this aft. I went to G. Axsoms this aft. Addie had a calf today
April26 1940 Alfred worked for Sam again. Betty came down this morn & I went home with her. D. & J. were here this morn
April29 1940 today is J. &D's wedding ann. we went up & ate dinner with them. D. came home with us & stayed awhile. we fixed fence home.
May1 1940 A. helped J. today. I went along & sewed baby clothes. Betty came up there this morn. it snowed a little today and was cold.
May5 1940 A. burned stalks this aft. I went to Mothers. Stella Rose was there.
May6 1940 A. harrowed this morn. we ate dinner at G. Axsom's. James & B came & stayed all nite. Daisy came down awhile this aft.
May7 1940 it rained today . J.& B. were here this morn. Willis came down. we helped him take down his heater. Little Beauty died today.
May8 1940 A. helped J. fix fence. I went up there. WE went to H. Peterson's after eggs this eve. Came by Bills and talked a while.
{H. Peterson, I think, was related to Emmaline & Almie & lived between Bill & Aunt Bessie's and Saline.}
May9 1940 Alfred painted for Grandma A. today.I went up there with him. Lil & Betty came a while this aft.
may10 1940 J, A, & I went to Cains. this aft. A & I went to see DR Duff & Ross Bears. we took some lilacs to Daddy's grave
May11 1940 i worked in the garden this morn. & went to G Axsoms this aft. G. & Ina came there. A. worked at Johns. i cleaned the house this eve.
May12 1940 A. raked stalks on creek this & Betty were here awhile today. we played cards & checkers this aft.
May13 1940 Alfred cultivated the truck patches.i hoed some in the garden. we went up to G. Axsoms awhile tonight.
May17 1940 we hoed the truck patch this morn. A. hoed the potato on river this aft. I was up to G.A. this eve
May18 1940 Alfred helped wash this morn. it rained today. we shelled seed corn this aft. Ralph was here awhile this eve
May19 1940 Sun. we went to Jr. C. today. they have a new boy born Thurs. had a nice visit. saw mom & Betty as we came home
May20 1940 i am 18 today. i went to Ds & Moms awhile this morn . helped paper at G.A. this aft. A. fixed fence today.
May21 1940 A., J. & M. fixed a crossing across the creek this morn. & planted corn this aft. Mom & B came this aft. & hail this eve.
May23 1940 J & A finished planting corn today on creek. we planted s. corn & p. corn this eve. D. came down awhile this aft.
May24 1940 A helped J plant corn today. I went up there about noon. Stopped at Mama's & G.A. as I came home. Cut A & Ms hair
May25 1940 A& J finished planting J s. corn this forenoon. J, A, & I went to town in car this aft. A & I went to see Dr Duff
May26 1940 I baked my b. cake today & put candles on it. we went up to G.A.s this aft. Mom & Daisy came down awhile this aft.
May27 1940 Alfred & Marvin planted corn today. I went up to Daisy's . I dont' feel very well today.
may28 1940 a yr. ago tonight since A. & I became engaged. I went up to D's today. I dont' feel a bit well. A. finished planting today.
{Mary Jean Axsom Beck Johnson says: "Mom didn't feel very well on May 27 1940. I guess I was a pain! On May 28 she didn't feel a bit well.}
May29 1940 wed. I've been sick all day. Our little 7 lb. girl was born at 6:25p.m. Mom & Daisy were here. A. got G. Bears tonight.
May30 1940 Mom, Betty, Willie, Wayne, Jr. J & Marvin, Ralph, Johnnie, Lil & W. Ella were here awhile today. I really don't feel very well. our chickens are hatching. baby cried a lot tonight
May31 1940Mom, Betty, Daisy, G. Boyd, Marvin, Lil, W. Ella, Wyvonne & girls & Willie was here awhile. G. Axsom is pretty sick. they had Reid with her today.
June1 1940 Mom & Betty were here this morn. Daisy came down & stayed while J&M went to town tonight to take G. Boyd home.
June2 1940 we had lots of company today. they had G. Axsoms dinner today. she was 92 yesterday. We named the baby Mary Jean.
June3 1940 A went up to see G. Axsom this morning. She died while he was there. Mom & Betty were here for awhile this aft.
June4 1940 Mom,BEtty,DAisy,Aunt Maude, Marvin, Anna, Roy Lee & Shirley were here this eve. Willie stayed here tonight.
June5 1940 they buried Grandma today at Hughes. The funeral was at Fairview. Alfred wa a pallbearer. Mary is 1 wk old today. I set up in bed awhile.
June9 1940 we washed this afternoon & Mary Lou & Wilma came over. Mary Jane sang a song for mom this morn. Daddy died 1 yr ago today. IT rained again tonight.
July4 1940 we were up to Johnnie's today. Anna & the kids were here. had angel food cake, cherry pie & ice cream. had a nice time.
Aug18 1940 Ralph is 20 yrs old today. BAby & I were up there. We went to Janette's in afternoon. Warren & wife & baby came . They came after me.\
