Amanda E. Boyd Grimes (Found in the Allerton Newspaper on June 1, 1905) (Born Mar. 16, 1838, Died: May 31, 1905) Mrs. Harrison Grimes an aged lady of this vicinity, died at her home southwest of town yesterday forenoon. Deceased had been a great sufferer for years with cancer which finally caused her death, She leaves a husband and several Children. Funeral this afternoon at 2:00 o’clock. burial at Clio, Iowa. She is survived by her husband Harrison, four sons, and one daughter. A. Jackson, Samuel W., I. Fletcher of Clio, Iowa Thomas J. of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Lucy Glaus and John Wesley Grimes of Allerton, Iowa and several grandchildren. Two sons preceded her in death James Madison in 1866 and George W. in 1886.

John Wesley Grimes (Times Republican, Corydon, Iowa) John Wesley Grimes, was born in Putnam County, near Green Castle, Indiana, March 27,1857, and departed this life at his home in University Park, Iowa. Monday nite April 9, 1923 at eleven o’clock being 66 year and 12 days old. When he was ten years of age he came with his parents, Harrison and Amanda Grimes to Wayne County, Iowa where he grew to manhood. He was converted in 1889 and about two years later was sanctified wholly. On Sept. 25, 1879, he was married to Miss Alice Mae Bamford, Daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Robert L. Bamford to this union six children were born three sons and three daughters. Dessie Allen of Clearemont, Minnestoa, Bertha Owen of Cedar Rapids Iowa, Robert L. and E. Leroy of Allerton, Iowa and Leatha Roberts of University Park, Iowa. All this family except one son Mark Elwood survived the father. He is survived by four brothers and one sister A. Jackson, Samuel W. and I. Fletcher of Clio, Iowa, Thomas J. of Seattle, Washington. Mrs. Lucy Glaus of Allerton, Iowa. To this list of mourners may be added the names of thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was a man of solid piety, simple faith and marked kindness. He bore in his life the fruit of the Christian spirit and walked consistently with his profession. For the last year he was borne evidence of rapid reopening in grace. In his last illness he was conscious to the end and talked with joy about his prospects there can be no question as to where he has gone. Though belonging to the real spiritual church of God he failed to identify himself with any particular church, but was in sympathy with the church and faithful to Christ. His family desires to thank all the people for their kindness during his illness and for their genuine Christian sympathy and fellowship.

Obituary of Harrison Grimes 1828 Indiana to 1907 Iowa
Author: Shirley Grimes LEWIS HARRISON GRIMES (Allerton Paper, in the Corydon Museum) Lewis Harrison Grimes, was born in Indiana, May 3, 1828 and died at his home in Wayne County, Iowa Jan. 3, 1907 at the advanced age of 78 years, 8 months. He was married in Indiana in April 1854, to Miss Amanda Boyd. To this union eight children, seven sons and one daughter, were born of whom six are living. Together with his only brother Jackson Grimes who survives him, he came to Iowa in 1867 purchasing the farm where he lived and for forty years did his part as a citizen in the developing of Wayne County. His wife who had been the sharer of his joys and sorrows and faithfully steadfast in the discharge of lifes duties. Died May 20,1905. Since then he has been tenderly cared for by his children. On the fourth of last July he was stricken with Paralysis, gradually weakening under its enervating powers until the end came. All that could be done by loving hearts and willing hands were extended and especially did the youngest son Samuel, provided for his fathers comfort with tender solicitude. The funeral services were held at the Clinton Center Chapel, January 5, 1907 at one o’clock p. m. conducted by Rev. W. H. Larrick of Allerton after which the mortal remains were laid beside those of his wife in the Clio Cemetery to await the resurrection Morn. He is survived by four sons, and one daughter. A.
