A mother and daughter were arrested in municipal court Friday on perjury counts.
The arrests were ordered by Judge Howard W Brooks, based on their testimony in a case he was hearing.
Free on Bond.
They are Mrs Myrtle Osborne of Davis City, formerly of 1434 1/2 Woodland ave., and her daughter, Mrs Wanda Maxine Lane, 30, of 1315 E Walnut st. They were released on $500 bond each, to await action by the grand jury.
The mother and daughter were witnesses in the case of Perry Keith May of 1118 Pennsylvania ave., who was on trial on a charge of assault.
Police accused May of beating Mrs. Lane July 20 at his apartment. They said the charge was based on statements at that time by Mrs Lane and her mother.
At the trial, Mrs Lane said she injured herself in a fall on a stairway and was not struck at any time by May. Her mother said that May "is a complete stranger to me."
Referred To Jury
"I don't believe either of you," Judge Brooks told the women. He had heard testimony of Patrolman Thomas A Teale, jr. and Detective Sgt. Leon Clemons.
May's case was referred to the grand jury. He was freed on $1000 bond.
