Bernard & Janet (Brown) Axsom
Bernard Charles Axsom ,son of Alfred and Pauline (Shafer) Axsom was born June 17
1944 at home on Pea Ridge, near Cainsville, Mo. Bernard attended country schools
in the Cainsville area and later moved to a family farm near Trenton and attended school
there. He worked on the family farm, milking cows by hand, and later bought his own farm
near Spickard and dairyed for years. Bernard worked on a neighbors chicken farm as a
youngster, and also worked in a gas station, a bakery, for Trenton Foods, Mid-Am, and now
at Coons Manufacturing in Spickard, Mo.
Janet Mae Brown, daughter of Vermal and Grace (Maxwell) Brown, was born May 14
1945 in Trenton, Mo. She attended school in Trenton, graduating in 1963. She worked
in fast food, in a hospital, as a part-time school cook, and owns her own second hand
store in Princeton, MO, The Bargain Store. She has been a Sweet Adeline in the Melody
Makers Trenton Chapter for years.
Bernard and Janet were married in Trenton June 2, 1963. They started their married life
in an apartment in Princeton, later moving to the Axsom family farm on Route A, near Trenton.
After his grandmother Daisy (Boyd) Axsom sold the farm, they rented a farm near Modena, Mo
until buying their own farm near Spickard. Bernard and Janet worked together on the farm,
putting up hay and silage, milking cows, raising hogs, chickens, and turkeys, and spent endless
hours building fence and chasing livestock.
They had four children, all born at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton, Mo. Debra Lynn
Axsom Dailey (of Mercer, Mo) born December 8, 1964; Lisa Ann Axsom Butler (of Vichy, MO)
born November 17 1966; Brenda Kay Axsom (of Lacona, IA) born March 28 1969; and John Ross
Axsom (of Kirksville, MO) born September 9 1980.
They have eight grandchildren: Koren Marie, Karl Joseph, and Katie Scarlett Dailey;
Rachelle Kay, Sarah Ranae, and David Seth Crabb; and Maxwell Oran and Logan Aaron
Butler.
