Saturday marked a "big" day for Missouri Western State University students.

Mowing lawns, planting trees and sorting clothes were just a few of the good deeds for the sixth annual "Big Event" Community service day.

Hundreds of university volunteers lent their time to four different St. Joseph locations.
Missouri Western senior Koren Dailey lent her hands to MidCity Excellence Community Learning Center

"It's about helping people," Dailey said. "I don't get to get out and do a lot of this stuff because I'm a full time student and I work like 30 hours a week."
