U.S. VeteranEmmit Williams, 73, of Marshall, MO, died Monday, September 5, 2016 in Howard County as the result of a motorcycle accident.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Marshall with Dr. Mike Parris and Rev. Vernon Maxted officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date in Williams Family Cemetery in Bunker. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the church, with a masonic service beginning at 11:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church or the Civil Air Patrol in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Born October 24, 1942 in rural Shannon County, MO, he was the son of the late James Floyd Williams and Juanita Flossie Craft Williams. Emmit was a 1960 graduate of Marshall High School and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in political science from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was a United States Air Force veteran, having served in Vietnam. On December 24, 1966 he married Marsha J. Maxwell who survives of the home. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Marshall where he taught Sunday school.
Emmit worked in law enforcement at Boone County Sheriff’s Department, Marshall Police Department, and as a reserve deputy with Marshall Police Department and Saline County Sheriff’s Office for many years. Emmit loved aviation and spent 20 years as a pilot for Evans Equipment, and for 13 years he was employed with FLIGHTSAFETY International as an instructor pilot of Citation X. He retired from FLIGHTSAFETY in 2012. Emmit was a pilot instructor in the Saline County area for many years, and helped many young people obtain their pilot license. In 2014 he was appointed as director of Saline County Emergency Management, at which he was still actively working.
He was a member of Trilumina Lodge 205 A.F. & A.M., V.F.W. Post 2646 in Marshall, was very active in Civil Air Patrol and served as the Missouri Wing Commander of Civil Air Patrol from 1991-1995, which included the Great Flood of ’93.
In addition to his wife, Marsha; he is survived by two daughters, Erica Williams of Jefferson City and Erin Williams of Marshall; four brothers: Dwight Mikels of rural Marshall, George Williams of Marshall, and James Williams and Kenneth Williams, both of Owasso, OK; two sisters, Nelda Hayes of Marshall and Kathleen Mullins of Warrensburg; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Thelma Rae Williams.
