Harley and Cora Maple family

Harley Evert Maple, son of John Wesley and Emily Jane Gibson Maple was born at his Gibson grandparents home December 26 1892 in Harrison county, MO. His parents had just returned from Nebraska where they lived a short time. Grandpa Maple soon purchased the farm on MM Highway which is now owned by a great grandson. Harley attended the Metcalf grade school. On August 14 1913 he was united in marriage to Cora Stanley, daughter of Seth D. and Nannie Agnes Higdon Stanley. She was born on a farm in Harrison county also and at the time of their marriage her parents lived in Bethany where her father owned a marble shop and she attended Bethany High School.
They lived on a farm south of Mount Moriah and in 1919 they along with the older two children, Stanley and Elaine, moved to a farm one mile south of Akron, Missouri. It had been muddy when they started the move and got as far as Mt. Moriah the first day. Bonard Maple and Glen Wiley helped them move and spent the night in the hotel and Harley and Cora spent the night with Herb and Ada Roberts near Mt. Moriah. It turned cold during the night so the trip the next day was over some really rough roads, breaking most of their dishes.
It was on this farm three more daughters arrived in the family--Ileen, Kathleen, and Joanna.
In the late 1920's, Cora along with Cora Morgan, and other women in the community organized a non-denominational Sunday School at the Akron Presbyterian Church. Cora also served as Clay Township Tax Collector and as a Sunday School teacher at the Cainsville First Baptist Church. She was a member of Chapter BX P.E.O. and Twentieth Century Club.
They sold their farm and moved to a property in Cainsville in 1943 where Harley operated a stock and grain truck. Cora passed away March 2 1968. Harley passed awaya December 25 1982. Both are laid to rest in Zoar Cemetery.
