OBITUARY
Howard Flatt, 66, died Sunday Dec. 24 2006 at Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Ia.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 27 at Cainsville, Mo., United Methodist Church, under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home of Bethany, Mo. Burial was in Freedom Cemetery, northeast of Cainsville. A memorial service was held Friday, Dec 29 at Grace Baptist Church in Des Moines, Ia.
Mr. Flatt, son of Howard and Lillian (Berthelsen) Flatt Sr. was born in Des Moines on April 24, 1040 (this is what it says! will have to look up his actual birth year! deb) He married Shirley Flatt on June 16 1963 in Des Moines.
In spite of lifelong health problems, he enjoyed helping others and his community.
When his children were young, he enjoyed helping others and his community. When his children were young, he enjoyed being a coach for flag football and basketball.
He was a master electrician and retired as business manager for IBEW Local 347. He served on the boards for the Food Bank of Iowa, Goodwill, Des Moines Habitat for Humanity and the first County Charter Commission, and president of the Iowa State Building and Construction Council. Most important to him was the opportunity to serve as deacon at Grace Baptist Church of Des Moines.
He loved spending time with family and friends, especially children, tinkering with his tractors, bird watching and being outdoors, especially if he was fishing.
Survivors include his wife Shirley, of the home at Cainsville; two sons Christopher Flatt(and wife Lari) and Howard Flatt III, and a brother, Arthur Flatt Sr. (and wife Tonya) all of Des Moines; a sister Patricia Bauer (and husband Ron) of Newton, Ia; and one grandson, six nieces and nephews, and nine great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cindi Flatt; and a sister-in-law, Barb Gray.
