Mrs Samuel Chrisman

unknown undated newspaper clipping from grandma grace's book
(not sure how or if she is related...deb)

62 Year Old Laredo Woman Dies At Home
Funeral services for Mrs Samuel Chrisman were held at the family home in Laredo, Sunday afternoon, conducted by Mrs A.H. Smith, wife of the pastor of the Laredo Baptist Church. Burial was in the Richardson cemetery east of Laredo.
Mrs Chrisman died Friday forenoon. A daughter of the late Wm. Brown and wife, she was born on a farm west of Laredo December 31, 1873. In July 1890 she married Mr Chrisman, and they had since resided in the Laredo community.
The survivors include three sons, Marion and Andrew of Laredo, and Ralph of Braymer; two daughters, Mrs William Boyers of Lindley, and Mrs Annie Shalley of Novinger, three brothers, George of Laredo, Frank of Gilman City, and Lewis of Ridgeway; and the husband, who is seriously ill with a heart ailment.

Everett L. Smith

unknown undated newspaper clipping from grandma grace's book
(not sure if or how he is related...deb)

George Smith received a telegram last week announcing the death of his son, Everett L. Smith on October 19 of measles and pneumonia. Everett left July 25 with the boys who were called into service, going to Camp Funston. He was attached to Co. G. 11th Inf., Replacement, and when last heard from Sept 14 was at Camp Merritt, N.J. and was expecting to sail for "over there" soon. Everett L. Smith was born August 23 1895 near Eagleville and grew to manhood on his father's farm, and was a good, industrious boy. His mother died when he was 12 years old, and he being the oldest he helped his father to keep the family of three brothers and a sister together. He liked his work as a soldier and was liked by his comrades and officers. It is not as yet known where he died, whether on board ship or after his arrival overseas, but he is another one of our brave lads who have made the supreme sacrifice for their country, and to him is given the same honor as though he had met death on the battlefield.
He passed into the great beyond at the age of 23 years, 1 month, and 26 days, there to await the resurrection morn. To the bereaved father and three brothers, Granville, Byron, and Otis, we extend our sympathy.

GLEN A. FOSTER
On Saturday July 28 1934 at 8:30a.m. Glen A. son of Anderson and Etta Foster, aged 23 years, 2 months, and 7 days, was called home.
On Monday preceeding his death, Glen came home, sick with tonsilitis, developing into pneumonia and complications.
All was done that loving hands and physical aid could do, but God in his mercy said, "You have suffered enough, Glen, come Home," and he left us.

Near the end, he asked Brother Parr to lead in a word of prayer.
He leaves to mourn his departure, a loving mother and father, two sisters, Hazel and Blanche, two brothers Ward and Carl, an aged grandfather, three nieces and one nephew. Also a very dear friend, Miss Ruth White, who was away at the time of his sickness and death. Two sisters, Opal and Alma preceded him in death.

HEART DISEASE CAUSES DEATH OF SMITH GIRL
_____________-
Autopsy Revealed Acute Dilation of Heart - Services Held Thursday - Burial at Rose Hill
________________________
Acute dilation of the heart caused the sudden death of Wyvonne Smith, 14 year old high school freshman, according to the findings of the autopsy performed under the direction of acting coroner Dr Fred A. Bowman by the following physicians, Drs. H.M. Hills, G.P. Reed, and M.W. Rogers.
The autopsy proved that the girl had been suffering from heart disease for some time and a voluntary statement made by her mother, Mrs Maggie Smith, was to the effect that she had complained upon several occasions of a pain in the region of her heart but that she had never had a thorough physical examination.
Wyvonne suffered the fatal heart attack Wednesday evening and died as she was admitted to the office of Dr H.M. Hills. Due to the fact that the young girl died suddenly the investigation and autopsy followed.
Services were held Thursday from the White Funeral Home with classmates serving as pallbearers.

Frisbie Reunion

My aunt Mary Axsom Beck Johnson learned that a Frisbie reunion will be held Sept. 9th. at the Cainsville Methodist Church. I don't know what time, I do know that I have to work that weekend so won't be able to go.
One of my patenal great grandmothers was Amanda Craig Shafer. She was one of the older children in her family. Her little sister Bessie married a Frisbie, and Bessie had many children. (I'm thinking maybe 9 off the top of my head...)
My mother & father both have many Cainsville relations.

The Lord giveth and the
Lord taketh away.

Precious memories of a dear
mother.
"She always learned to watch
for us,
Anxious if we were late:
In winter by the window,
In summer, by the gate.

"And though we mocked her
tenderly,
Who had such foolish care,
The long way home would seem
more safe,
Because she waited there.

"Her thoughts were all so full
of us,
She never could forget!
And so I think that where she is,
She must be watching yet.

"Waiting till we come home to
her,
Anxious if we are late;
Watching from Heaven's window,
Leaning from Heaven's gate."

"Blend your colors softly, artist,
Let the lines and wrinkles show,
And the silver hair that crowned her
Like a halo's beauteous glow.
"Can you picture on the canvas,
All the year of sacrafice?
How she tended well her household,
Ever counting naught the price?
"Let your brushes tell the story,
Of her patient love and care;
Mingle joy and love and sorrow,
Just as life had placed them there.
"Blend your colors softly, artist,
Face her toward the setting sun,
Smiling sweet and peaceful,
For her task on earth is done.
"Call the portrait simply 'Mother',
And the world will understand
How her loved ones thrived and prospered,
Guided by her gentle hand."

Philip Higdon

undated unknown newspaper clipping from Grandma Grace's book
(this is a partial clipping....)
Philip Higdon was born in Franklin County Indiana April 9 1846. He came to Harrison county Missouri in the early seventies and remained here until the fall of 1903, when after spending the winter in Butler county KS, he located at Winona, Shannon county, Mo, where he was living at the time of his death January 18 1907.
On January 15th, he started to go on horseback to Winona. As he was crossing a pond in the road the horse threw him (whether accidently or not is unknown) into the water and although almost drowned he ws able to get out and walk home over a mile away...

Mrs Mary McMican Enters Eternal Rest

undated unknown newspaper clipping from Grandma Grace's book
Mrs. Mary MiMican familiarly known to her countless friends as "Mrs Mc" and "Mother Mac", passed from this earthly realm into eternal rest at eight o'clock Sunday evening, September 16 1934, following several months of evident weakening and a few weeks of extremely serious lingering brought on by a failing heart and asthmatic condition.
Obituary
Mary Alice Bryant was born April 29 1859 in Harrison County MO, and at the age of 75 years, 4 months, and 17 days, departed from this life on September 16 1934.
On February 4th 1875 she was united in marriage with Phillip Higdon, and to them were born nine children, seven of whom survive. They are: James H. of Potwin KS, Nannie A. Stanley of Kainsville, MO, Joe D. of Winona, Emilie P. Orton of Rosalie, KS, Gilly M. Maxwell of Melbourne, Mo, Nora G. Williams of Winona, and Hobart of Avant, OK.
She had been a member of the Christian Church for the past fifty years, and was ever a devout and devoted worker in the church. She was a member of the Rebecca and Eastern Star orders and besides being a faithful worker in them both, lived the great truths which it is the purpose of these orders to exemplfy.
Many local persons recall the passing of her husband, Phillip Higdon on January 18 190.
On November 21 1916 Mrs. Higdon became the wife of J.H. McMican, who also preceeded her in death, passing on October 29th, 1925.
In her home life Mrs. MiMican was ever a faithful and devoted wife and mother, taking great pride and interest in setting an example of industry, thoroughness and refinement for her excellent children. She took pride in the fact that she was related to the famous William Cullen Bryant as the beautiful portrait of her father well shows.
Those of us who knew her learned to love and respect her. One always found a hearty welcome in her home. Many a child and young person was wont to stop at her door for a word of cheer or a little token of cheer.
The community has lost one of its finest citizens and most beautiful characters. The lodges and the church will especially mourn her loss. May her memory long be cherished into eternal realms.
Rev.L.R.Norton
_______
Mrs. MiMican's daughter, Mrs. Nannie Stanely, came here from north Missouri some two months ago to stay with her mother who was failing in health. As her strength ebbed away she requested that her sons and daughters who were in other parts to come to see her while she could visit with them. In response to this call her sons, James H and Hobart and her daughter, Mrs Orton, came and spent several days with her. The sons of necessity returned to their homes while Mrs. Orton remained here. Mrs. Gilly Maxwell came for the last rites.
Following death the body was cared for by the Croy Undertakers of Van Buren until the funeral was held in the Christian Church at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon, Rev. L.R.Norton, a close personal friend, officiating. Burial was made in the WInona cemetery between her departed husbands. The local chapter of the Eastern Star order conducted their funeral service at the grave.
Large attendance at her last services was mute testimony of the high respect in which Mrs McMican was held, and these friends united in extending sympathy to the seven remaining children for the irreparable loss they sustain in the loss of their wonderful mother, councellor and friend.

Mr & Mrs J.W. Orton anniversary

undated unknown newspaper clipping from Grandma Grace's book
Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Orton of Rosalia, celebrated their forty-nineth wedding anniversary at the home of their son, Hobart Orton and family, February 14.
All members of the Orton family attended the six o'clock dinner celebration. This included two sons, Hobart of rural Rosalia, and Frank from Potwin. The one grandson, John Orton of Potwin, and the six granddaughters, Norma and Martha Orton of Potwin, and Patty, Phyllis, Virginia, and Jan Orton of Rosalia attended.
Miss Emily Phyllis Higdon and James Wesley Orton were united in marriage at high noon, February 14, 1903, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr and Mrs Phillip Higdon near Bethany Missouri. They were attended by Miss Mamie Higdon and A.E. Orton.
Mrs. Orton relates that the Higdon home, a log house of five rooms, fairly bulged to hold the many invited guests. But that following the ceremony an elaborate dinner was served which centered around roast turkey and Virginia baked ham.
Both Mr and Mrs Orton have been in poor health for some time and have been staying
at the home of Hobart Orton, but hope to soon be able to return to their own home.
Others who helped the Orton's celebrate were Mrs Fank Orton, Mrs. Hobart Orton, Elsie and Karen Smith.

The 2007 Axsom book by Larry Axsom & Norma Zanetti

the new Axsom book
Aunt Mary Johnson has found errors in the 2007 Axsom book. Larry Axsom, who wrote the book responded to her letter with one of his own:
Tuesday July 24 2007
thank you for identifying the typos:
1. Sharer instead of Shafer-page 363 lines 12 and 13
2. Mary instead of Marv-page 393 line 1
3. Mithelle Nocelo instead of Michelle Nicole-page 393 line 45 (or 6 lines from the bottom.)
4. Moderna instead of Modena-page 138
Thanks also for the updates:
1. Roger Dale's divorce-probable date 1972
2. Donald George Cyr-I am aware of the fact that there was a name change. The geneaology database system that I use does not provide the capability to handle that unusual situation automatically. The fact of the name change shows up in the notes within the database. These notes could not be included in the book because the size of the book would have tripled if all the notes were printed.
4. Vincent & Wayne Hughes passing was not noted. This is a VERY general problem! There are many, many names listed in the book with no death date. There is no requirement on anyone to report birth and death dates to Norma or myself. Nearly all the birth and death information that appears in the book got there because Norma or I researched, via the world wide web or telephone calls or email or US mail to find it. I wish that every Axsom descendant had notified us of every birth or death in the family tree.
5. Roger Dale Axsom-birth hospital-page 363 line 6. I will update the biographical sketch for Alfred Elmer Axsom.
6. Bernard Charles Axso's bio:
a. "they are still working." I used the language that I received from Deb.
b. "the two daughters worked their way through college."-perhaps that word "the" should have been omitted. Deb wrote it that in her material for the bio.
7. your Grandpa's bushy eyebrows. Neither Deb or Pauline saw fit to mention that fact.

deb just wants to say: a lot of work went into this book. I appreciate it very much! I tried to do an update of the Brown History for my aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents...I proudly typed it all up, made copies, put it together, & handed it out at a family dinner. I should've just handed out red pens for the proofreaders in the audience! It was a very humbling experience. And I probably won't take another update to a family function! (not one that I've written, anyway!)
