Boyd Family by Pauline Axsom

this was handwritten for me by my late Grandma Pauline Shafer Axsom, in March 1989. Grandma wrote this from her memory, she included lots of interesting details, but I'm not sure how accurate dates are, etc. It's still a wonderful piece of work, and I treasure it all the more since we lost Grandma and her wonderful memory in 1992. She was the wife of Alfred Axsom, who was the son of Daisy Boyd Axsom and grandson of Susan Elliott Boyd. and I'm famous for typos...if something looks wrong, question me on it! THE BOYD FAMILY

SANFORD BOYD was born in Indiana in 1859. He had two brothers William and James Alfred "Pete". "Pete" died of cancer in Saline, Mo. Their mothers maiden name was PERKS. Sanford "Saint" Boyd died of cancer in Cainsville, Mo in 1924.
SUSAN ELIZABETH ELLIOTT was born October 7 1864 in Tippicanoe County, Indiana. She had five sisters and one brother. Sisters: Ola Viola Elliott Booth, Dove Elliott Moore, Georgia Elliott Meadows, Della Elliott McCarty and the brother Willicam H. Elliott. Susan "Susie" died in Cainsville, Mo. Dec. 26 1959. At the time of her death she had 24 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren, and 24 great-great grandchildren. She was baptized in the Fairview Christian Church by "Uncle" Billie Moore.
Sanford Boyd married Susan Elizabeth Elliott Jan 12 1884 in Indiana. They moved to Iowa in 1869, then on to Missouri in 1870. To this union ten children were born.

Maude B. Boyd was born 1884. She married Melvin Maroney. They had three girls, Bertha Sue, Isabel and Lillian and one son who died in infancy. Sue married Julian Heitz and they had Mavi(ran off edge of paper, can't tell what the rest of it was, deb) and Keith. Both Sue and Julian are dead.
Isabel Maroney married Louis Sorenson and they had Phyllis (who married and had a daughter Gracie Lou), Dewayne, Melvin, and Alvin. Both Isable & "Louie" are dead. Lillian married Cleo Phillips and was later divorced. They had one daughter Dona Faye. Lillian remarried and had Douglas and another daughter. Lillian lives in St Joseph, Mo. Maude and Melvin are both dead.

Cora Dell Boyd born Oct 22 1886 and died June 16 1979 in San Diego Ca. Married James Clark "Jay" Axsom who died June 1933 in South Dakota. They had 8 children.

Wayne Axsom married Velda Pearl Thompson of Gettysburg South Dakota. She was born Sept. 17 1915 and died April 16 1979. They had 3 children.

Dora Fay Axsom married Lawrence Glodt. They had 3 children.

note: all 3 were named Wayne after their grandfather Bernard Wayne Axsom.

James Alfred Boyd married Lou Craig. They had 6 children.

Lou died after the children were all grown and Alfred married Ethel. Alfred is dead now.

Helen Boyd married Floyd "Gummy" Martindale. They had Gerada (dau.) and Jimmy. Helen and "Gummy" divorced and she married again and had some children.

Nettie Boyd married Jewell "Barney" Powers. They had a daughter Nettie Lou.

James Boyd married Beatrice in 193_. They had Billie Grant, Gilbert, Robin, and Katie.

Warren Boyd married Naydeane ______________. They had Louellen, Janet, Warren Lee and Danny.

Marie married Raymond West and they had a son Barry and a daughter.

DAISY OLIVE BOYD married JOHNNIE T. AXSOM April 29 1908. Daisy was born Sept 4 1892. They had 5 children.
.Nona May died of typhoid fever at the age of 23, Anna Elizabeth, Noma Viola, Alfred Elmer, and Marvin Lee.

Nona May Oct 20 1908 died Sept 1931 in Kellerton Ia at the home of her aunt and uncle. She is buried in Maple Row Cemetery. She was named after her mothers favorite school teacher, and was a school teacher. ( I have been told that her mom kept a long braid of Nona's hair in a trunk after she died, and that she called her "Little Sister." deb)

Anna Axsom born March 8 1910 married Roy Rilling in Jan 1933. They had 2 children, Roy Lee and Shirley Joan.

Roy Lee Rilling born April 28 1934. He married Barbara Slagle, had one son David & 3 daughters, Deborah Ann who married Patrick Bronder, Denise who married Richard Dukelli and Diane who married Brad Cook. Diane & Brad have one son Patrick Jordan.

Shirley Joan Rilling born June 7 1936. married Robert Landry had Sherrie Kay, Robet James, and Russell Eugene. She divorced Robert Landry and married Raymond Figone. They have one daughter Michelle Rose Ann.

Sherrie Landry married Jeffrey Johnson, They have 2 girls Tina & Denise.

Robert "Bobby" Landry married Lisa Banks. They have 2 girls, Kala and Dristi

Noma Viola Axsom married William Avril in 1937. Vi was born in MO on Nov 5 1911. They had one daughter Catherine Ann, born March 23 1947. She married Phil "Steve" Stephens. They have 2 girls.

Mary Axsom married Alvin Beck. He died at the home of his brother-in-law Bernard Axsom, in rural Modena, Mo. She married Fred Johnson, divorced. No children.

Freeda Axsom married Jerry Haggard. (and here's a weird small town thing....Jerry Haggard is my uncle. His older sister Carolyn was married to my husband Kevin's great uncle Wayne Shroyer. So we're both related on paper. deb) they have 3 children.
1.Darla Ann married Marcus Winegarden. they have 4 girls, Trisha Raschel, Stacia, Jennice, and Morgan. Trisha married Donald Cyr, who then changed his last name to Winegarden, so they are Donald & Tricia Winegarden. They have 2 boys. (the youngest is Trenton Lee, Oct 19 2005. Will have to look up the other boys name and birthdate. deb)
2.Mona Carol Haggard married Randy Boyer, they have twin girls Connie and Kristen. Mona and Randy divorced and she married David Somers, they have a son, Cody. ( One of the twins is married, both twins have a daughter. I know their girls names are Faith and Alexis, but can't remember who goes with who.. Will have to look it up. deb)
3.Jerry Lynn Haggard

Bernard Charles Axsom married Janet May Brown. She was born May 14, 1945 in Trenton,Mo. They were married June 2 1963 at Trenton,Mo. They were dairy farmers and had jobs off the farm, as well. Bernard died October 18, 2013 at Wright Memorial Hospital, Trenton, MO.
They have 4 children, all born at Wright Memorial Hospital, Trenton,Mo. After his death, Janet sold the farm and moved to Trenton, MO.
Bernard works at a plastics factory in Spickard, Mo. Janet owned and operated consignment stores in Princeton and Trenton, Mo.

Deb Axsom married Kevin Fred Dailey Sept 28 1983 at the United Methodist Church, Mercer, Mo. He was born Feb. 28 1965 in Galvaston Co, TX.
Deb works in a hog barn for Premium Standard Farms. Kevin loads trucks at HyVee Warehouse, Chariton, Ia.
1.Koren Marie born Oct 8 1985 in Leon, Ia. She graduated Valedictorian at Mercer High School 2004 & graduated from Missouri Western State University, St. Joe,MO. Koren married Cody Body Wills at Mt Crested Butte, CO Sept. 19 2009. They are the parents of Ian Boyd Wills, born Dec 2 2013 and Coralie Jessamine Wills born March 4, 2016. She is currently a stay-at-home mom.
2.Karl Joseph "KJ" was born March 9 1992 at Fairfax, Mo. he graduated from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, MO, and is the history teacher at Ridgeway High School, Ridgeway, MO. He married Taylore Maria Andrus March 15, 2016. They have a daughter Zerelda James Dailey born May 19 2017.
3.Katie Scarlett was born Nov 2 1998 @ Corydon,Ia. she was named after the heroine of Deb's favorite book, "Gone With the Wind". Katie was salutatorian of North Mercer High School Class of 2017 and is attending Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, MO.

Lisa Axsom graduated from Trenton Junior College and NEMSU, Kirksville, and is a CPA. she married Thomas Hieber Butler June 4 1994 in Belle, Mo.
Tom works for the state of Missouri, installing fax machine systems, and Lisa owns/operates a consignment store.

John Axsom works at the jail in Kirksville,Mo. He attended college at North Missouri Central College, Trenton,MO.

Roger Dale Axsom married Delores June Bruce, divorced, no children. he died of cancer Jan 12 1987. He attended college and studied music.

Marvin Lee Axsom , son of Johnnie and Daisy, born Oct 11 1923. Married Martha Maverine Coon. They had 2 children.

John Marvin Axsom married Ellen Leona Dula. they have 3 sons, James Arthur, Kenneth Marvin, and Jeffrey John.

Cathy Lynn Axsom married George Noel Crawford. They have one daughter Michelle Nicole.

Gilbert Boyd married Alma Oxford. They are both dead. They had one son Gifford who married and has 2 sons.



Maymie Boyd married Johnny Flanagan. He died. They had
1.Harold married Hazel Luper and they had 2 sons. One son was killed in a car accident when he was a young man. Hazel is dead now, too.
2.Harley who married Sylvia Bryant. They have one daughter Virginia.
3.Ruth Flanagan married Orville Dale. They had 4 children, Eldon, Sharon, Cheryl, and ________. In July '86 Ruth wrote a letter to Pauline & Alfred Axsom saying they had 4 children, 14 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
p.s. Maymie Flanagan now is in a nursing home in Leon,IA.

Nolta Edith Boyd married Jim Frisbie. They had 2 sons, Dewey, who was accidently shot and killed when he was a young man, and Gerlad, who married Helen June Wishon, oldest daughter of Lee and Sylvia Wishon. They had 2 girls, Brenda, and Christine. June died and Gerlad married again and lived in Oregon. He was accidently shot and killed, too. Edith & Jim divorced & she married Cliff King of Leon, Ia. They had 2 children Carol Sue & Junior. Cliff died & Edith married Gerald Smith of Leon, Ia. Edith died in 1985 or 1986.

Madge V. Boyd married Clem Hamilton. They had 2 girls Geraldine & Marjorie. Madge died when she was just a young woman.

Clark Boyd married Ray Bell. No children. They lived in Sacramento, Ca. both are dead now.

all of Sanford & Susie's children were born in Missouri.
