The Foster Family by W.T. Foster cont.
born 1720 lived and died in Virginia. He married Jane Gurrant, A Huguenot, by whom he had four children, John, William G., Jane, and Sarah. His second wife was Jane Forsee, also a Huguenot, and they had four children, James, Stephen, Silas, and Mary. Notice that the first wife, Jane Guerrant was mother of John and therefore ancestor of my wife. (deb's note: they have spelled her last name two different ways.) John was the Revolutionary soldier. His father and brothes, James, Jr. and W.G. were privates in teh battle of Guilford, his uncle, Thomas Bryant, a lieutenant, was killed and another brother, Isaac was wounded.
John Bryant, the Revolutionary soldier, emigrated to Kentucky in 1783, married Mary Owsley, aunt of Governor Owsley of Kentucky, was appointed civil engineer and surveyor by the Governor, and brought up a large family. He left living, his son James G. Bryant, grand-father of Joseph F. Bryant of Bethany, Mo.; Thomas Owsley Bryant, my wife's grand-father; Daniel Bryant, Isaac Bryant's grand-father; Geroge S. Bryant, father of the Independence, Mo. Bryants; Jonathan Bryant, father of the Maryville, Mo. Bryants; Edmond L. Bryant, father of the Pike Co. Mo. Bryants.
Thomas Owsley Bryant was father of Jonathan M. Bryant of Harrisoin county, Mo. and he was my wife's father. I believe the genealogy to be correct but some have claimed that James Bryant Jr. was born in England. I find that he was born at Plymouth, Mass.
I can not copy all the records of the Bryant Family I have found. Others may go into the history more in detail. To my mind the evidences are very strong that the Bryants are Wends and were among those that conquered the Roman Empire. There are strong evidences indicating that they were chieftains in the Norway armies that conquered and organized the great nation in Normandy, northern Europe and were decendants of the Wends who conquered Norway. For the history of the Wends, see hisotry of the Fosters in this pamphlet.
I also find that the Bryants held high positions in teh armies of William the Conquerer and assisted in conquering England in 1066A.D., that they fought with the English generals for 200 years in the crusade wars and therefore have a right to the cross and the eastern star in their coat of arms;that they were prominent in the wars of France, in defence of their church brethern, under King Henry II of France, and that is the reason that the lion and the fleur de lys is in their coat of arms. THat fact is very important as none were entitled to that crest in their coat of arms except the family of King Henry II, descendants of his family, and those who received the highest honors for great deeds of honor in King Henry's army. The English government also gave them a special crest because of constant patriotism, consisting of the English flag guarded by a lion.
