Melvin "Joe" Hass

Melvin Ernest "Joe" Hass, son of John H and Mildred (Krambeck) Hass, was born in Bettendorf, Iowa, on June 2, 1917, and passed away on September 23, 1998, at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, Iowa, at the age of 81 years. Joe was united in marriage to Mildred May Shook on May 27, 1951. Mildred preceded him in death on July 2, 1985. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Marvin Hass. On August 18, 1986, Joe was married to Marie (Shroyer) Dailey. Marie survives him of their home near Mercer, Missouri. He is also survived by two stepsons, Elijah Dailey (and his wife, Dixie) of Mercer, and Duane Dailey of Columbia, Missouri; one stepdaughter, Deanna Screffler (and her husband, Frank) of Des Moines, Iowa; a cousin, Elois Matousek (her husband, Jerry, and sons, Jon and Jim) all of Phoenix, Arizona, and by 8 step-grandchildren, and 12 step-great-grandchildren. Joe was raised in Bettendorf, Iowa. He served in the Army during World War II in the China-Burma-India Theater. After the war, he returned to Bettendorf where he worked in farm implement factories. In 1961, he and Mildred moved to Princeton, Missouri, where he farmed until his retirement in 1984. After Joe and Marie were married in 1986, they moved to Mercer, where he was a member of the American Legion.
