William Ervin "Bill" Lovell

son of Harmon Uriar and Henrietta Elmira (Reynolds) Lovell, was born December 28 1914 in Hasty, Iowa, and died at the age of 97 years, October 29 2012 at the Westview Acres CAre Center in Leon, Iowa.
Bill lived most of his life in Iowa attending country school through the eighth grade adn then worked in the family business of truck farming.
In 1944, hejoined the U.S. Armyu during World War II as a field lineman in the 641st division.
After the war, he returned to Des Moines, Iowa, and was employed with Solar Aircraft. He later went into business for himself installing chain link fence.
He loved gardening, growing flowers, grapes and berries, fishing, hunting, Patsy Kline music, and watching the Lawrence Welk show and Hee Haw on TV. He can be remembered for his wit, never taking anything too serious, always having a comeback, and wearing his big sombrero hat while mowing the yard on his riding lawnmower.
Bill was united in marriage to Arlene Elizabeth Payne on November 28 1940 in Minnesota. They lived in Iowa until he retired, and then moved to an acreage south of Princeton, Missouri, where he enjoyed attending auctions, raising grapes, and became a member of the Ragan-Hickman American Legion Post #477 of Mercer. After his health began to fail, they moved to Iowa.
Bill is survived by his wife, Arlene, of Leon, Iowa; by four daughters, Sheryl Thompson and husband, Ron, of Mercer, Missouri; Joy Ferris and husband, Wayne, of Eastin, Maine; Darla Murphy and Nancy Daughton of Leon, Iowa; his son, Ervin Lovell of Leon; one sister, Minnie Daniels of Des Moines; sixteen grandchildren, Sheri Parsons and husband Donnie of Princeton; Makella Hagan and husband, Lathe, of Mercer; Melanie Robinson and husband Chuch; Joseph Murphy and wife Ann; Billie Jo Heaton and friend, Kevin McAninch; Tammy McFee and husband Skip, all of Mercer, MO; Larry Hartman and wife Sonja; Jerry Hartman and wife Stacey, all of Los Vegas, Nevada; Carla McIntosh and husband Doug, of Corydon, IA; Kevin Heaton and wife Laurie of Hanford, California; Carl Hill and wife, Sharon, of Arizona; Jeff Lovell and friend, Lashenna Drake, Corrina Wires and husband Anthony of Leon, IA; Kelley Frost and husband Larry of Novinger, Missouri; Jon Jeffers and friend, Bobbie of Maine; and Jessica Ferris and friend, Mikel, of South Carolina; 5 step grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 16 step great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; 9 step great great grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Dixie Dailey; 2 grandchildren, Shelley Belcher and Robert Lovell; a great grandson Cody McIntosh; one brother, Harlan Lovell; and by one sister, Norma Rice.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Lineville, Iowa, with Pastor Jack Stark officiating.
