this was the diary of my late Grandma Mary Pauline Shafer Axsom, loaned to me by her daughter Freeda Darlene Axsom Haggard.

dec24 1938 we got our xmas presents tonight. Mother got me this diary. Pearl got me gloves, Inez combs, & I got a scarf, wave combs, and beads.

dec25 1938 we all walked to OScars & on to Saline. Grandma gave me a hankie & pencil. We had a nice time & didn't get home until night.
Dec26 1938 it has been cloudly all day & snowed some this evening. I went to Lois' this aft. it is very cold tonight.
dec27 1938 Ralph, Mother & I went to Jenette's. Lil came too. we stayed all day.
Dec28 1938 Ralph & Jr cut brush this morn. Stella Rose came up this eve & stayed about an hr.
dec29 1938 we washed this morn. i went to Lois' this aft. & she wasn't at home. Dean went down there this eve & got funnies.
Dec30 1938 Mamie,Wilma, Mary Lou came over at noon & they & I went to school to visit this aft. Ralph walked to town this morn.
Dec31 1938 we butchered today. Bill, Bessie,MAry Lou & Floyd Jr came over.
