MAN HELD IN STABBING CASE
A man wanted here on a crug charge is being held in the Terrebonne Parish (County) Jail in Houma, La, after allegedly stabbing a man to death during a tavern fight, authorities said.
The man was identified as Daniel J. Barr, 23, formerly of 2020 E. Fortieth St. in Des Moines. He is wanted in Des Moines on a warrant issued Jan. 6 charging him with delivery of a Schedule One controlled substance (marijuana) police said.
Barr gave a New Orleans, La, address when arrested, officials said.
Barr originally was charged with murder, but a grand jury reduced the charge to manslaughter, the sheriff's office said. Barr is being held in lieu of $5000 bond, officials said. He is accused of fatally stabbing on Marc. 23 a man identified as Albert Billiot, 25, of Houma.
Houma police said Barr and Billiot quarreled at a tavern and that the stabbing followed. Billiot died at a hospital later that night, police said. Barr was taken into custody at the tavern, according to police.
Des Moines police said they do not plan to see Barr's extradition.

Omaha, NEB.-Daniel James Barr, 23, who gave his address as 2020 E. Fortieth St, Des Moines, was arrested here Tuesday night after he allegedly threw an open pocket knife at a police officer who was chasing him at Memorial Park.
Police said they approached a car, bearing a Des Moines liscence plate, and noticed a plastic bag containing a suspicious substance partially concealed by a blanket on a rear seat.
Officers said they had ordered the two occupants outside and one ran. One officer yelled at the fleeing youth twice then pursued him. The alleged knife incident occurred during the chase. Barr was captured after the officer fired a pistol shot in his direction, police said.
Arrested with Barr and booked on a charge of possession of marijuana was James R. Jones, 18, who gave no permanent address.
