Services for Capt. Wilbur French Hathaway (ret) 82, of 1044 Sixth ave., will be at 2 p.m. today at the Central Presbyterian Church. Further services will be Sunday at Lancaster, Mo., with burial at Downing, Mo.
Mr. Hathaway died Thursday at home after suffering a heart attack. He was born in Downing, Mo, and lived here 35 years. He had previously lived at Anamosa.
He was Iowa director of Graves Registration until he retired about 20 years ago. He served in the 168th Infantry of the Rainbow Division and was a veteran of World War I and II. He was a member of the Sons of Union Veterans and Arthur McCullough Post of the American Legion at Anamosa. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs Jane Lee Manning of St Petersburg, Fla., and Mrs Elanor Girten of Fallbrook, Calif., two sons Gordon M. of Long Beach, Calif., and Wilbur W of Pass Christian, Miss., a brother E.H. Hathaway of Lancaster, Mo., and 11 grandchildren.
