Eide Warns Bikes Must Be Lighted

Plice Chief Howard Eide ordered a crackdown Tuesday on bicyclists riding without lights at night and riding double as a result of three recent accidents here involving bicycles.
The latest accident was about 7:30p.m. Monday when 8-year-old Steven L. Wales of 1012 Third St., suffered slight body bruises when his bicycle was struck by a car at Second and Indiana avenues.
CLEO LIONEL OSBORNE, 59, of 1104 Wade St, driver of the car, told police he did not see the boy on the bicycle because the bicycle did not have any lights on it.
Eide pointed out that city and state laws require lights on the front and rear of bicycles whwen they are ridden at night and prohibits more than one person riding on a bicycle at any time.
