Hobart R. Higdon, Former Resident of Potwin, Dies

Funeral services for Hobart R. Higdon, 65, a former residnet of Potwin, were held December 22 at Avant, Okla. Mr. Higdon died there on December 18 while at work as postmaster.
Services were held at the Avant Methodist Church with Rev. Thell Robertson officiating. Burial was at Sedan, Kan. with members of the Avant Masonic Lodge and the Wester Schreck Post of the American Legion participating.
Born OCt 17 1894 near Bethany, Mo. Mr. Higdon came to Potwin from Winona, Mo. He lived at Potwin for a number of years and was a member of the Potwin Christian Church.
Mr. Higdon saw service with the United States Army in World War I and was a member of the Webster Schreck Post of the American Legion at Barnsdall, Okla. He married Miss Stella Shannon on Feb. 14 1927 at Caney, Kan. For the past 31 years, Mr. Higdon has been in the drug business at Avant and has served as postmaster the last five years.
Surviving are his widow; four sisters, Mrs. Nannie Stanley, Cainsville, Mo; Mrs. Emma Orton, Potwin; Mrs Gilly Maxwell, Trenton, Mo; and Mrs Grace Williams, Winona, Mo; nine nieces and six nephews; One sister and two brothers preceded him in death. They were Mrs Minnie Blood, J.H.Higdon, and Joe Higdon.
