unknown undated newspaper clippings

Mrs. Mary McMican familiarly known to her countless friends as "Mrs. Mc" and "Mother Mc", passed from this earthly realm into eternal rest at eight o'clock Sunday evening, September 16, 1934, following a few months of evident weakening and a few weeks of extremely serious lingering brought on by a failing heart and asthmatic condition.
OBITUARY
Mary Alice Bryant was born April 29, 1859 in Harrison County, Missouri, and at the age of 75 years, 4 monts and 17 days, departed this life on September 16, 1934.
On February 4th, 1875 she was united in marriage with Phillip Higdon, and to them were born nine children, seven of whom survive. They are: James H. of Potwin,Kansas, Nannie A. Stanley of Kainsville, Missouri, Joe D. of Winona, Emilie P. Orton of Rosalie,Kansas, Gilly M. Maxwell of Melbourne, Missouri, Nora G. Williams of Winona and Hobart of Avant, Oklahoma.
She had been a memberr of the Christian Church for th past fifty years, and was ever a devout and devoted worked in the church. She was a member of the Rebecca and Eastern Star orderes and besides being a faithful worker in them both, lived the great truths which it is the purpose of these orders to exemplfy.
Many local persons recall the passing of her husband, Phillip Higdon, on Januray 18th, 1907.
On November 21, 1916 Mrs. Higdon became the wife of J.H. McMican, who also preceded her in death, passing on October 29th, 1925.
In her home life Mrs. McMican was ever a faithful and devoted wife and mother, taking great pride and interest in setting an example of industry, thoroughness and refinement for her excellent children. She took pride in the fact that she was related to the famous William Cullen Bryant as the beautiful portrait of her father well shows.
Those of us who knew her learned to love and respect her. One always found a hearty welcom in her home. Many a child and young person was wont to stop at her door for a word of cheer or a little token of cheer.
The community has lost one of it's finest citizens and most beautiful characters. The lodges and the church will especially mourn her loss. May her memory long be cherished as her soul wings its flight into eternal realms.
Rev. L.R.Norton
