Know ye, that Dewitt C. Brown Private of Captain R.B. Hughs company "M" Regiment of Merrills Horse VOLUNTEERS who was enrolled on the Sixth day of August one thousand eight hundred and Sixty One to serve Three years or during the war, is hereby Discharged from the service of the United States, this Fifteenth day of September, 1864, at St Louis Missouri by reason of Expiration of Term of Service (No objection to his being re=enlisted is known to exist.*)
Said Dewitt c. Brown was born in Harrison county in the State of Missouri, is Twenty years of age, Six feet Five inches hight, Dark complexion, Hazel eyes, Dark hair, and by occupation, when enrolled, a Farmer. Given at St Louis Mo this Fifteenth day of September 1864.
*This sentence will be erased should there by anything in the conduct or physical condition of the soldier rendering him unfit for the Army.

County of Daviess in the State of Missouri on this 6th day of September in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty six personally appeared before me, the undersigned, a Justice of the Peach for the county and state above mentioned, Dewitt C Brown who, being duly sworn, accoring to law, declares that he is the identical Dewitt C Brown was was a Private in the company commanded by Captain R.B Hughs in the regiment commanded by Col. Lewis Merrill that he enlisted on the 6 day of August 1861 for the term of 3 years and was discharged at St Louis on the 15 day of Sept 1864 by reason of Expiration of Term of Service
