This indenture made the 28th day of June 1822

aunt Minerva collection....old copy of a handwritten document with a black stripe from copy machine...tiny handwriting. an amazing document...will transcribe what I think is of interest....love the descriptions for how their land is measured out.....

William Shannon & Nancy his wife...William Milam...in consideration of hte sum of five hundred dollars...a parcel of land containing 185 acres beginning at a spanish and white oak...east corner to Henry Harmans land......to Solomon Milams old tract...large chestnut, buckeye, and maple...a small spanish oak...chestnut and maple...under the east river mountain...two white oaks and a poplar...

so, I don't know why Aunt Minerva had this...neighbors? relations? land Maxwells had sometime bought or sold? and what about these trees? could they be cut down? what if the two small Spanish oaks were cut down for a cabin or firewood...how would you mark your land? sounds like a hilly place, too, what with all the ridges. and densely forested. I hope to someday get to Virginia. it is surely a beautiful place!
