James C. Maxwell son of Witten Maxwell & Alice Creswell Maxwell was born 17 Dec. _____. was born in Tazewell Co. Virginia volunteered in Civil War in 1961, captured & released. he came to Patterson, Iowa to Creswell family, then migrated to Fox Creek Township in Harrison Co, Mo. purchased 40 acres-built a log house on it. He married Minerva Creswell. They were the parents of 1. Henry who married Josie Quigley. they had a son, Franklin. 2. Cynthia died young. 3. Thomas Witten was the father of James, Manervie, Eugene, Joseph Henry, Leland, John, Grace, & Minerva. 4. Mary Emily.

His wife Minerva died with the birth of twins. James C. continued to care for his chldren with the help of the Creswell inlaws until he married Harriet Hughes Harrison. James C. continued to live in his home with his son Thomas & family. James C. was a farmer.
