Franklin Doze Family
This is a correction.
I sent this out to you all the other day, but I had goofed and only had four of their children listed so I corrected this and added the missing child. I should pay more attention to what I am doing. Sorry.
Vicki

George Washington Doze
In an earlier email I had sent info about George Washington Doze, but it was incomplete. Here is some more info:
On his wife Frances Catherine Hahn:
Born 9 Feb 1852 in St. Clair Co., MO
Died 26 Nov 1904 in Norwich, Kingman Co., KS
Buried in Upchurch Cemetery, Norwich, Kingman Co., KS
Daughter of Columbus Hahn and Celia Brown.
Info on George W. and Frances Doze's son Webster Wallace Doze
born 18 Jan 1876 either in Lowrey City, St. Clair Co., MO or Greencastle, Sullivan Co., MO
died 28 Mar 1973 in the Old Soldiers Home, Fort Dodge, Ford Co., KS
I'm not sure where he is buried but will do some searching.
Married first: Margaret "Maggie" Belle Schamel 1901 (would have been after Feb 5th). Maggie and Webster were divorced 20 May 1922. She had been married first to John Brady 31 May 1893 and divorced him 5 Feb 1901.
Married second: Alice M. (last name unknown) 5 Dec 1931. Alice was previously married to Oliver C. Seely. She and Oliver were divorced 21 Nov 1929.
Webster never had any children of his own.
He had a step- granddaughter named Loveta Capps who I met accidently while waiting in line for a luncheon at a genealogy conference in Topeka, KS. She was waiting ahead of me and turned towards the incoming crowd trying to spot her friend. I was finally standing face to face with her. She looked at my name tag and got pretty excited! She asked me if I was related to Webster Doze and she told me who she was and about being his step granddaughter. I think we emailed or mailed each other once and I may have more information that she gave me, but I haven't come across it yet in my files. Anyway, it was one of those strange moments in genealogy called Serendipity, I believe!
I have personal letters that Web Doze wrote to Ole Doze. I have a copy of the history he wrote about his ancestors while he was at Fort Dodge, KS. It was a project that was done at the Soldier's Home. He liked to be called "Major." He was in the Spanish-American War but as I stated in an earlier email, I don't think he held the rank of Major, but not sure.
Edgar O. Doze was the second child of George Washington Doze.
Born 26 Sept 1877 either in Lowrey City, St. Clair Co., MO or Greencastle, Sullivan Co., MO
Died 9 Dec 1947 in Norwich, Kingman Co., KS
Buried 11 Dec 1947 in Upchurch Cemetery, Norwich, Kingman Co., KS
Married Lovisa Anna Rolfe 3 Sept 1899 in Norwich, Kingman Co., KS
I have no additional info on her.
Edgar was called Ned. and he was a construction builder.
Their children:
Harry Glenn Doze born 9 June 1900 in Norwich, Kingman Co., KS. Married Myrtle J. Allen 23 Dec 1933.
Edith Mae Doze born 10 Sept 1901 in Norwich, Kingman Co., KS and died 16 Sept 1979. Married William Roy Hoops 31 Aug 1921.
Geneva G. Doze born 4 Mar 1904 in Norwich, Kingman Co., KS and died 18 Apr 1992. Married Herschel Dunn 21 Feb 1908.
Alestine Doze born in 1907 in Norwich, Kingman Co., KS and died there in 1912 at the age of five.
Clarabelle Doze born 30 Mar 1914 in Norwich, Kingman Co., KS. Died 18 Ded 1978 or 1979. Married Earl Washburn.
Harry Glenn has also passed away, but I need to find that info in my files. I also have pictures of Harry and Geneva that I need to look for. They both attended the Doze reunions we had in Kingman, KS.
Info for this family of Edgar O. Doze came from Harry Doze; Shirley Jean Hoops Vague; Obituary; Wedding announcement
John Burtis Doze, the third child of George Washington Doze:
He was a Newspaper reporter and editor for the Norwich Herald, but most known for his days with the Wichita Eagle. He was also the Kansas State Fish and Game Commissioner. I am presently trying to find out more of his history as the Kansas State Fish and Game Commissioner. He was also a published author, as was his wife, Genevra.
He was born 24 Nov 1881 in Greencastle, Sullivan Co., MO
He died 25 July 1947 in Wichita, Sedgwick Co., KS
Buried in Upchurch Cemetery, Norwich, Kingman Co., KS
He married Genevra Madeline Jocelyn 17 Jan 1911 in Wichita, Sedgwick Co., KS. She was the daughter of Stephen E. Jocelyn and Madeleine Taylor
She was born 11 Jan 1870 in West Amboy, NY
She died 25 Mar 1932 in Wichita, Sedgwick Co., KS
John Burtis married second to Mary Keller McLean in 1934.
John B. and Genevra had one son:

I guess this all I'm going to send for now!

Floy Doze
Thought since I had this handy, I would send it - Floy was the daughter of Franklin Doze. Franklin was the son of Victor and Mary Bailey Doze. Victor was the oldest son of John Claude and Mary Barbe Doze. The information isn't complete but it's all I have. If anyone has any additional info, I hope you will share with me.
Floy Mae Doze, daughter of Franklin and Sarah Bishop Doze, was born Jan. 1882 in MO. She married Wesley Emmet Thompson (Walter) who was born Dec. 1879 in IA. Their children:

Okay, I'll try to explain pictures first and then send genealogy in another email.
The two of Burtis Taylor Doze were taken in 1944. He was the son of John Burtis Doze and grandson of George Washington Doze.
John Burtis Doze on Wichita Booster Trip in 1941.
John Burtis Doze with granddaughter Genevra M. Doze in 1940.
I'm not sure about the identities of the picture entitled Genevra Jocelyn Doze with son Burtis Taylor Doze.
The young man certainly looks like a younger Burtis Taylor Doze. Do you know, Rosemary, if this is actually your father? I think my in-laws thought it could be a picture of John Burtis Doze with his mother Frances Hahn Doze--but I seriously doubt that. I think the young man has Burtis T.'s mouth shape, chin shape, ears and eye shapes.
The last picture is of Webster Wallace Doze who everyone called Major because of his military service in the Spanish-American War! I don't believe he actually held the rank of Major, however. I do not know who the boy is in the picture. Webster Doze did not have any children of his own. He did have a step-daughter from one of his marriages.
If anyone can tell me if I have the identity correct of the mother and son, please let me know. Thanks.
I'll send genealogy info in a later email. Some of you may not be interested, but it's important to share pictures and genealogy because one never knows when disaster will strike and if nothing is shared, then it could all be destroyed forever. I had a cousin on my father's side of the family who lost all the pictures, genealogy, etc. in a flood in Sept. She also lost the Bever book I had written. Most of the pictures, she had shared with me way back in 1980's and I was able to make nice copies for her and I had an extra book, so I sent them to her. I haven't sent the genealogy yet, but I will.

George Washington Doze
from Vicki Bever Doze
I have more pictures to send but this was kind of large because it
came directly out of my Doze Photo Album.
It is the only picture I have of George Washington Doze. He was a son of Victor Doze and Mary Bailey Doze. Victor was the son of John Claude and Mary Barbe Doze who came over from France. Mary was the daughter of Job Bailey and Bethana Rounds Bailey--I hope I got Jobs wife right! I haven't entered that info into my genealogy program yet!
George Washington Doze was born 23 Nov 1851 Garden Grove, Decatur Co., IA. Died 2 Aug 1944 in Wichita, Sedgwick Co., KS and is buried in Upchurch Cemetery, Norwich, Kingman Co., KS (I probably have a picture of his tombstone--I'll have to see if I can find it.)
He was 92 year 8 mos and 9 days old when he passed.
He was married to Frances "Fannie" Catharine Hahn in Osceola, MO on either 28 or 8 June 1874. I have both dates written down, so need to check a marriage record for correct date, unless you have a correct date that you could send to me.
Their children were: Webster Wallace Doze, Edgar O. Doze, John Burtis Doze and Gertrude Lena Doze
If anyone has any info to add about George Washington Doze and wife or any pictures, I hope you will share with me. Thanks.
