The Foster Family by W.T. Foster cont.
Mary Jane Foster, daughter of Ivins and Margaret (McKEe) Foster, born in Harrison county, Ky. Dec 28 1821 married Samuel Dunn April 1 1847 and died Dec 21 1910. Mrs Narcissa Dunn Akers, 1505, South College Street, Springfield, Ill. is daughter of Samuel and MAry Jane Dunn and therefore a descendant of Samuel Foster, who was son of William, my great-grand-father, the Revolutionary soldier. A more complete genealogy of all the descendants of Samuel will be found in my scrap book of the Foster Family, which scrap book I expect to deposit in some Library, probably the St. Joseph, Mo. public library. Mrs. Akers has furnished me with the complete genealogy I am giving an extended account of her line of ancestors because she has done more to help me in preparing the genealogical history of the Foster family than all others combined.
Miss Narcissa Dunn married James W. Akers, M.D. He was a grandson of Rev. Peter Akers, D.D. a noted pioneer Methodist minister and college president of Illinois. Dr. James W. Akers died September 23, 1903. Mrs. Akers is a typical Norman-French, of the Foster Scotch-Irish branch and is a "Companion piece" of the description of my great-grandfather William, which I have given except that she is well educated while he was not. She takes much interest in her ancestors and has given much time and thought to research for records of the Foster Family. A photo-engraving of Mrs. Akers will be found near the middle of this pamphlet.
A seeming descrepancy exists as to the birth place of my grand-father Thomas Foster. Some census reports place it in Maryland. Probably it was in Maryland but the long drawn out dispute about the state line between Pennsylvania and MAryland has been settled and it is now in York county Pa.
Thomas Foster, third son of great-grand-father William, and father of my father, was born Nov. 12 1772 on Muddy creek, southeast corner of York county, Pa.
